In this interview, discover what led him to join the AVALES team and immerse yourself in a conversation about passion, professional experiences, and the anticipation of new challenges. Welcome to a year full of fascinating insights and enriching encounters!

1. What prompted you to work as a freelancer for AVALES Wilhelm AG?

Six years ago, I got to know and appreciate Andreas Rudolph. Together, we effectively supported executives in outplacement programs until they secured new professional positions. When Andreas joined AVALES Wilhelm AG in January 2023, I didn't hesitate for a moment to join AVALES as a freelancer as well.

2. What connects you to the HR consulting industry?

The HR consulting industry is more than just a profession to me - it's my passion and expertise. For over two decades, I've been engaged in this field, whether as a headhunter or an outplacement consultant. The connection I feel is rooted in my joy of supporting people in their professional challenges—whether in the search for new opportunities or in managing changes. This industry allows me to contribute my skills and extensive experience to help others achieve their professional goals and develop both professionally and personally.

3. How would you describe your key skills and experiences that you would like to bring to your role at AVALES Wilhelm AG?

In my role at AVALES Wilhelm AG, I bring forth a wealth of experiences and skills stemming from my extensive tenure in HR and expertise as a headhunter and outplacement consultant. Before starting my career as a personnel consultant, I gained comprehensive experiences in various management positions in the transport and logistics industry. These roles provided insights into profit and loss responsibilities, giving me a deeper understanding of candidates from various leadership positions.

It's crucial for me to support my candidates/clients in their reorientation, clarifying their professional objectives, identifying their strengths, and enhancing their application strategies.

4. How would you characterize yourself?

Describing myself has always been a challenge. Perhaps one would need to ask my wife; she might provide better insight. However, my guiding principle is:

"One must appreciate people."

Human connections are at the core of who I am.

Growing up bilingual, I appreciate the thoroughness and punctuality of the Swiss on one hand and bring an open-minded and curious attitude toward new things as a half Dane on the other. Networking brings me great joy. However, I also have no problem admitting that I can occasionally become impatient as I like to get to the point quickly.

5. Where can you be found in your free time?

In my free time, I cherish moments spent with my wife, especially during our travels and frequent visits to my second home, Denmark. Cooking is another passion of mine, which I pursue as a dedicated member of a cooking club. Additionally, I am a Tambour and hold the position of a board member in a “Fasnachtsgesellschaft” in Basel.

Niels Burkhard, our first freelancer of the year, brings an impressive array of skills and experiences to the world of HR consulting at AVALES Wilhelm AG.
